Quotes

So since I read so much, I'm always stumbling across awesomely wonderful quotes that are either incredibly inspirational or though-provoking. Some of the quotes I offer in this blog are ones that I want to remember in order to work with in my own academic articles. Some of them I don't see working in to my work, but they're still awesome and should be read by others.

So the quote for the day comes from a book I just read called "The Disappearance of Irene dos Santos", which was difficult for me since so much of it is dependent on some working knowledge of Venezuelan politics of the last century. I kind of got some of it down since so much of it is about class conflict and uprisings from the people. So after 305 pages of reading, I finally got to the quote worth thinking about and that intersects with my own interests in race.

"Once there was a norteamericano, a black man, who said he had a dream. But it was not a dream. It was only a fleeting vision; a vision that dims and brightens in the never-ending battle between the few who have everything and the many who are tired of being left behind to suck the bones at the empty banquet table."

What do you think about this quote?
